WOW! We had nothing short of a fantastic 2016 Toy Bash. You worked so hard to get donations in the doors of our sponsor locations, and everyone that came out Thursday night really went the extra mile to make it all shine!
We’ll talk more about the fine details later, but here’s the short list:
- 3500: This number represents the total toys donated to the Marine Corps League’s Toys for Tots. That’s over 3500 presents that will be wrapped and under the tree and putting smiles on kids’ faces come Christmas morning. Take a second to wrap your head around 3,500 happy kids.
- This is the first year toy donations surpassed toys purchased. As you probably know, we take the monetary donations and go raid Toys R Us the next morning, filling carts and boxes with toys. Thanks to your generosity, this was the first year that your toy donations numbered higher than the toys we bought. That’s pretty amazing, considering we usually have a 4:1 ratio there. Great job!
- 16 venues, 13 bands. This represents our highest participation ever in the Toy Bash, and we can’t thank these talented musicians and generous venues enough!
- 69′ 7″. That’s how long the receipt from Toys R Us was. Yeah, we’re makin’ a list… And that list means many, many happy kiddos.
To speak to the food, you consumed over 600# of pork, 450# of potato casserole, 75 gallons of beans and 180# of slaw, all prepared by our stellar volunteer crew. Thanks SO MUCH!
We’ll be updating the site with more pics, videos and such as we continue to come down from this year’s event, so check back often. We are also working on the date for next year, so stay tuned for that, too!
Thanks again to all of the volunteers, sponsors, bands and venues in Downtown Cape that made this happen. Most importantly, thank YOU for taking part! You made the difference in a lot of lives this year!
Many of our Toy Bash friends bring their donations the night of, whether in cash or toy form, and donate that night. Did you know that we have drop boxes for donations up all around Southeast Missouri for weeks prior to the actual event?
We are blessed with a load of fantastic sponsors, and each of these sponsors has a donation drop box at their location. They’re ready to take those toys and make some dreams come true!
What this boils down to is this: If you can’t make it to the actual Toy Bash event, you can MOST DEFINITELY donate to the cause before that happens. In fact, you can donate right here on our website!
At the end of the day, our goal is to make as many childhood dreams come true as we can. If it’s the middle of July and you want to make a donation, go for it! We’ll make sure it gets where it needs to go right here in our local community.
The title says it all: Your Donations Matter. They really do, and we can’t say thank you enough for being a part of Happy’s mission!
Barbecue, bands, loads of social time… all of this makes the Toy Bash a magical night. But the best part is the day after, when we get to shop for great toys for the kids!
You can imagine that our volunteers are a bit… groggy the morning after Toy Bash. They worked so hard the night before, taking donations, checking IDs, cooking and delivering the food and so much more. In fact, we know they’d love nothing more than to sleep in, dreaming of sugar plums and all that.
Nope; these sleepy heads are up bright and early with a smile on their faces, as they know it’s SHOPPING DAY! We meet at Toys R Us in Cape Girardeau, grab an army of shopping carts and cut loose on the most fun shopping spree we could imagine.
Loads (like, literally; LOADS) of toys are bought and placed in our trucks for delivery later. We’ve even made a fun habit out of keeping the receipt in one piece for a cool Christmas-y feeling. 🙂
Want to be a part of this fun? Just let us know on our Volunteer page and we’ll be in touch. Happy would LOVE to have you join us!
